Feature summary
Natural Factors Senior’s Multi Probiotic provides eight probiotic strains that support digestive health and combat age-related reductions in immune system function. Each strain has been carefully selected for its natural resistance to gastric acid, allowing the probiotics to reach the intestines at full potency. This formula not only offers Lactobacilli to support small intestine health, but also Bifidobacteria, the most prevalent friendly bacteria in the large intestine.
Unfortunately, the populations of these good bacteria, such as B. breve, decline rapidly as we age, leaving us vulnerable to infection by pathogenic organisms. Maintaining the diversity of gut microflora through regular consumption of Senior’s Multi Probiotic may reduce the production of pro-inflammatory substances which can, in turn, help in the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and food intolerances. Beneficial gut bacteria also support genito-urinary health, playing a role in the prevention and management of yeast overgrowth and urinary tract infections.
This comprehensive formula includes L. rhamnosus, clinically shown to enhance immune system activity in the elderly, along with L. acidophilus, which can significantly decrease gastrointestinal side effects, as well as yeast infections associated with antibiotic use.
Senior’s Multi Probiotic has a guaranteed potency of 55 billion active cells per capsule at manufacture, and 35 billion at expiry.
Main selling features
- Contains senior-specific strains designed to target digestive problems, immune system health, and inflammation
- Is antibiotic compatible, and decreases the gastrointestinal side effects and yeast overgrowth associated with antibiotic use
- Supports both the large and small intestines
- Has a higher ratio of Bifidobacterium, which decline more rapidly with age than Lactobacillus
- Each strain is carefully selected for natural gastric resistance, so no enteric coating is necessary
- Guaranteed to have at least 35 billion cfu, even at expiry
- Suitable for vegetarians; gluten-free and non-GMO
How it works
Bifidobacteria are the most prevalent friendly bacteria in the large intestine, while Lactobacilli are the main beneficial strain in the small intestine. Together they support gastrointestinal and immune health, help maintain the permeability of the intestinal barrier, and support overall health and well-being.
Bifidobacteria appear to decline after the age of 50, increasing susceptibility to pathogenic colonization and the resulting inflammation, tissue damage, and immune system dysfunction. Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli have been found to reduce inflammation and digestive discomfort (especially associated with antibiotic use), as well as enhance immune system activity. More recent evidence suggests a role for Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli in supporting healthy cholesterol levels, blood glucose, blood pressure, and even cognitive function and emotional health.
Each strain in the formula has natural resistance to gastric acids. Gastric resistance is critical to surviving the stomach's acidity without an enteric coating and reaching the intestines at full potency. These eight strains were also selected for their ability to grow in the presence of the high bile levels that are common during digestion. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria. This formula is “antibiotic compatible”, meaning it helps restore good bacteria and reduces the risk of diarrhea without interfering with the effectiveness of the antibiotics.
